State Police Colonel Stepping Down

State Police Colonel Don Melton is stepping down effective June 20th. Colonel Melton didn`t give a reason today for his resignation. A state police spokesman says Lieutenant Colonel Steve Dozier will take over leading the department until the governor appoints another colonel. Melton was named director in June of 2001. He has been in law enforcement for 36 years.
