Arkansas Fishing Report: July 22 - 24

Before I get to the fishing report, we all know it's hot out there. It's hitting triple digits. Right now, if you run out of water there's three things that can happen. Heat exhaustion, heat cramps or heat stroke. My son, Brad, and his cousin went on a fishing tournament, they ran out of water, he got sick. You've really got to watch it. Carry a lot of water, carry your sunscreen and take care of yourself.
Okay, my hot spot by far is the White River. You can put in at Des Arc or Devalls Bluff. Spinner baits and gitzits working real well. I'll go over that later on -- they're really catching a lot of fish.
Lake Conway, the brim have moved ten feet up to the bank. That's about the only thing biting on that lake right now but they are biting with crickets and wax worms.
All your clear water lakes: Lake DeGray, Lake Maumelle, Greers Ferry, Lake Ouachita -- I really recommend fishing those at nighttime. They're catching a lot of bass using a ten inch worm. Look for brush piles off the main points and you're going to catch a lot of good bass doing that.
The lure of the week -- I've got two of them: the white spinner bait and I've got a gitzit. A gitzit's a tube bait that you can pick up at Fish 'N Stuff, Greers Ferry and Sherwood. Vince Miller will tell you how to rig one of these, but you need to use a number two shaw grizby hook. Something I like to use is a rattle that you can stick in the heat of that tube. When you flip it down in there, you can shake it and that rattle will go and make the bass crazy and they'll hit it.
Okay anglers, my update right now for Fish for the Fallen which is October 29 -- I have a new member that came aboard. My new sponsor is Hogg's Meat Market. They're located in Levy in North Little Rock. They're going to supply the hamburgers for Friday night's dinner. As I get more sponsors I'll let you know who's aboard.
