Unidentified Bodies Remain Cold Cases after Years

It took years for authorities in Woodruff and White Counties to identify the bodies of two teenaged girls who disappeared from separate places, three years apart. Little Rock Police say they have their own similar cases, which could be much more difficult to solve, it at all. In 1995, 15-year old Robin Lynn Farnsworth leaves for school in Bald Knob and never comes home. Her remains are found in Russell two years later. "I took a loss 9 years ago, and I`m just now finding out the truth," said Farnsworth`s father, Terry Farnsworth, on Thursday, May 6, 2004. In 1998, 12-year old Ashley Johnson disappears from her grandmother`s home in Cotton Plant. Her remains turn up in an abandoned house three months later. "It hit my mind it was her. The reason: she was the only child that was missing here in cotton plant," said her grandmother Lottie Harlston, in March 2004. But it wasn`t until this year, their families ever found out that the both remains were their missing children. The situation in Little Rock: instead of missing people, police have bodies, but no one with which to match them. "They just left home one day and never returned," said Sgt. Terry Hastings, Little Rock Police Department. In 2002, a woman`s skeletal remains are found n the 13000 block of Cantrell Road. Two years later, another woman`s body is found decomposing behind a house in the 2700 block of Reservoir Rd. Without any evidence or witnesses, police may never know how the bodies got there or why. "We know there`s family members out there, probably still wondering where the person is," said Hastings. And in cases like these, not even new DNA technology can help. "Well if it`s 10-12 years old, there was not much DNA back then to gather it, so we have to go back, try and get DNA samoples and if we don`t know where to look that`s hard to do," he said. It`s a tough job identifying people, who unlike Robin Farnsworth and Ashley Johnson, no one seems to be looking for. Police say the remains fround on Cantrell Road could have been there for several years, the body found on Reservoir Road, six months at the most. The police department says they suspect foul play in both cases.
