Updated: January 7, 2009
A National Guard soldier from Chidester has been killed in Iraq. The family of Hesley Box Junior says the military informed them of his death yesterday. His father -- Hesley Box Senior -- says the circumstances of his death have not yet been fully explained to the family. Box said his son leaves behind a wife and an 18-month-old son. Hesley Junior joined the National Guard in 1997 and was previously deployed overseas to Bosnia and Saudi Arabia. He went to Iraq with the Arkansas-based 39th Infantry Brigade. Box says his son had decided to get out of the guard when his current hitch is up, but was in good spirits when sent overseas. A second son, Tarcus Kyron Box, is in Iraq with an active-duty unit. The father says Tarcus is being sent home for his brother`s funeral.
