Early Voting Starts Monday

Updated: January 7, 2009
Early voting starts today across Arkansas for the May 18th primary. At the statewide level, Senator Blanche Lincoln has a challenger in the Democratic primary. Three Republicans are running for the GOP nomination for the seat. Lincoln faces Lisa Burks, a National Organization for Women activist, in the primary. In the only primary for a U-S House seat, term-limited state Representative Marvin Parks of Greenbrier and Maumelle businessman Ed Garner duel for the Republican nomination to face incumbent Democrat Vic Snyder in the fall Second District race. Three state Senate races featuring Democratic incumbents challenged by term-limited House members will be decided in the primary, along with 16 House seats. Five of those seats involve incumbents facing challengers from within their own party. ------ As a result of 2003 legislation, Arkansas for the first time will have uniform early voting schedule statewide in the two-week run-up to the May 18th primary. Runoffs, if necessary, will be June eighth. Polling places in each county will be open between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Early voting is to end at 6 p.m. on the Monday before the election.
