The board of North Little Rock`s
Alltel Arena has decided it doesn`t need to pay a company in
Philadelphia to manage the arena.
The board voted unanimously yesterday not to renew a five-year,
$200,000 contract with SMG. But all 26 SMG staff
members at the arena, including General Manager Michael Marion,
will continue to run the show.
But, starting next year, they will report to the board instead
of to bosses in Philadelphia.
The arena has made $634,830 in net income
through March, beating expected revenue of just over a hundred
thousand dollars. Marion said the money came in from big concerts
by Kenny Chesney, Kid Rock, Linkin Park, the Jermaine Taylor fight
and huge crowds at the state high-school basketball championships.
