Officials of twelve Arkansas counties say they have disasters on their hands after flooding late last week and over the weekend. A statewide disaster declaration by Governor Huckabee yesterday included seven counties -- Baxter, Boone, Crawford, Franklin, Madison, Marion and Washington. Today, officials in five more counties notified the state Department of Emergency Management that they had declared disasters. Those counties are Carroll, Independence, Izard, Newton and Searcy. A news release from the agency said floodwaters were still rising in some areas today. According to the department, 50 homes in Washington County were rendered uninhabitable by flooding. Several counties listed damage to county roads as well as state highways. Washington County said 300 miles of roads had been damaged.
