New Overtime Regulations Start This Summer

The state Labor Department says that new federal overtime pay rules that will affect most Arkansas workers
will go into effect automatically this summer without state action.
Some states already have their own laws and the new regulations will not apply. Other states have laws that cite current federal regulations, but don`t have mechanisms to automatically update for new language. Their legislatures will have to act to implement the
new regulations.
The department said Arkansas workers are covered either by federal regulations or by the state rules, which typically cover mostly businesses grossing less than 500 thousand dollars in annual sales.
The rules will not automatically change for state businesses covered by state law.
