State Highlights Presidential Visits In New Brochure

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A new Arkansas travel guide gives visitors a view based on where presidents have visited in the state. Nineteen presidents have traveled in Arkansas -- starting with Martin Van Buren in 1841. The Destination Arkansas tourism promotion effort is to be officially launched today -- at the Capitol Hotel in Little Rock, where then-former President Ulysses S. Grant stayed in 1880. Every sitting president since Herbert Hoover in 1929 visited Arkansas. But Arkansas took awhile to catch on as a travel destination for the chief executive. Seventeen presidents did not make it to the state, including nine of the first eleven to hold office during Arkansas` statehood. The state, the city of Little Rock and the state`s future tourism centerpiece, the Clinton Presidential Library, researched presidential visits since Arkansas became the 25th state, in 1836.
