Updated: January 7, 2009
Twelve of Arkansas` smallest school districts will present consolidation plans to the state Board of Education tomorrow. The board faces a June 1st deadline to merge 57 Arkansas school districts with fewer than 350 students. Last week, board members approved merger plans for five districts. Tommorrow, the board will consider merger plans from the Cotton Plant, Emmet, Kingsland, Lynne, Mc Rae, Mount Judea, Mount Pleasant, Saint Paul, Taylor, Umpire, Walker and Wilburn districts. Each has agreed to merge with a nearby district to bring their total enrollment above the 350-student cutoff.
