State Plans Waiting List For HIV Drugs

Updated: January 7, 2009
The state plans to reinstate a waiting list for HIV patients who need help paying for medications. Through a federal grant, the state can only assist 460 patients and demand is expected to surpass that number soon. The state Health Department says more AIDS patients are living longer because they receive better care. One result is that there are more people enrolled in the AIDS Drug Assistance Program. Arkansans are eligible for the program if their income is at or below 300 percent of the federal poverty level. For a single person, that`s $27,930. The program provides more than three (m) million dollars in medication funding in Arkansas. Sixteen states, including Arkansas, have established a waiting list or limited program eligibility.
