Updated: January 7, 2009
Hot Springs police say a woman found dead late last week in her apartment was pregnant. The body of 22-year-old Melanie Pasley was found shortly after noon Friday by the woman`s mother after she was unable to get in touch with her daughter. Police said Lola Pasley, the mother, persuaded an apartment maintenance worker to let her in to her daughter`s apartment, and found her daughter lying on the floor. Police Chief Gary Ashcraft said there were signs of a struggle in the apartment, but no signs of forced entry. A news release from police today said preliminary autopsy results showed that Melanie Pasley was in the first trimester of pregnancy. But the release said other test results and from evidence gathered at the scene may take as long as several weeks to return results showing how the woman died.
