Updated: January 7, 2009
Attorney General Mike Beebe is warning consumer about "phishing" scams. Scammers send fraudulent e-mails claiming to be from legitimate senders, and contain attachments or Internet links that if opened can spread viruses or download the user`s personal information. Beebe says the false e-mails appear to be from legitimate businesses, government agencies or even Internet Service Providers. They entice the recipient to download the attachment or click an Internet link with a message that there is a problem that needs resolving, often with a bank account or e-mail account. Beebe says e-mails from legitimate entities rarely include attachments or `net links.
