Four Craighead County jailers and a Brookland
police officer are suspended with pay in connection with the
beating of a Brookland man they had arrested.
Forty-eight-year-old Terry O`Neil told authorities police
shocked him several times with an electrical stun gun and punched
him Wednesday evening at his home. At the jail, he said, several
jailers and deputies kicked him.
O`Neil claims officers also assaulted and shocked his
girlfriend.
Sheriff Jack McCann says O`Neil didn`t deserve his beating.
Brookland Police Chief Mark Rusher said he had suspended patrol
officer Aaron Murphy.
McCann says Murphy, two deputies, two state police officers and
six jailers took part in the beating. The state police is
conducting its own investigation.
Police records indicate O`Neil was charged with disorderly
conduct and resisting arrest.
