Updated: January 7, 2009
A woman in an SUV ran over and killed a miniature horse in downtown Fort Smith after jumping a curb and running down a parking meter. The eight-month-old horse named "Peaches" was owned by Classic Carriage Tours and had become a popular fixture in the city. Peaches was tied to Classic Carriage Tours` trailer next to a restaurant on Garrison Avenue when she was run over yesterday. A second, full-size horse who was tied to a post on the sidewalk, was taken to a local veterinary clinic with possible injuries. Police officer Rich Entmeier says the driver was hurt and was in serious condition at a hospital. He says several types of medication were found in the Chevrolet Blazer.
