Tyson Goes Smoke-Free

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The world`s largest meat-processing company is definitely not just a big smokehouse these days. Tyson Foods announced today that as of the first of the month all of its production plants and support buildings were smoke-free. The Springdale-based company says its new smoke-free workplace policy will help protect the health and safety of 120-thousand workers at more than 300 Tyson locations nationwide. The new policy requires anyone who wants to smoke to use only designated smoking areas outside the company`s buildings. The company cited the costs of employee smoking, including higher illness rates and absenteeism, lost productivity, and in the long run, the cost of health insurance.
