Prosecutor drops suit to remove Pulaski County clerk

Prosecutor Larry Jegley has dropped his suit to remove Pulaski County Clerk Carolyn Staley from office. He made the decision after Staley did not file for re-election by the deadline earlier this week. Circuit Judge Marion Humphrey dismissed the suit today at Jegley`s request. The suit could be filed again later, but Jegley doesn`t think that`s likely. Jegley said that appeals of any decision would probably have delayed any final resolution of the case until 2005, more than a year after Staley leaves office on January First. The prosecutor filed the suit to remove Staley after a special grand jury issued a report in December strongly critical of Staley that recommended her removal.
