Griffen Files For Appeals Court

Griffen filed today for chief justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court.
Griffen had made his intentions clear months ago after
successfully arguing a personal appeal before the state`s highest
court.
In his bid for the Supreme Court, Griffen is emphasizing his
experience as an appeals court judge and said he was committed to
working hard and being fair.
If elected, Griffen would become the first black chief justice
in Arkansas and one of only a few blacks to serve as a Supreme
Court justice.
Last year, the state Supreme Court agreed with him that he was
unjustly admonished for speaking out on race relations at a March
2002 hearing before the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus.
The non-partisan election in November 2004 will decide who
succeeds Chief Justice W.H. "Dub" Arnold.
