The last of Arkansas soldiers from
the 39th Infantry Bridgade have left for assignment in the Middle
East.
Military officials said 290 soldiers departed Alexandria,
Louisiana, yesterday on a Boeing Seven-47 to fly to Kuwait. They
stopped in the Czech Republic on the way to joining about
Three-thousand other members of the brigade in Iraq, Afghanistan
and other Middle East countries.
Some soldiers said they were anxious to get to the region, but
they also expressed sadness about having to leave their families
for more than a year.
Until now, the soldiers were training in Texas and Louisiana.
The Arkansas National Guard unit was mobilized last October
twelfth.
