State Trooper Shot In Standoff

An Arkansas state police trooper was shot today in a standoff in rural Van Buren County. The standoff is still going on near the remote Ozark Mountain community of Alread. State police spokesman Donnie Belew said the trooper`s wound was not life-threatening and that he was taken to a Little Rock hospital. Belew said the standoff was with "more than one. We don`t know how many." Alread is a tiny community 20 miles west Clinton and about 70 miles north of Little Rock. Officials in Clinton, the county seat, said the trooper was flown by helicopter to a Little Rock hospital.
