The Board of Education is satisfied Monday that two charter schools have raised their academic standards
sufficiently enough to renew their charters.
The board today renewed the charters of Academics Plus in Maumelle and the Benton County School for the Arts. Earlier, the board had put off a decision on the schools, citing concerns about academic performance.
A federal law requires school districts to meet standards for
student performance to retain federal charter school funding.
Public schools that are charter schools are also exempt from
Arkansas` school consolidation law, passed during the recent special session on education reform.
