Pulaski County Quorum Court Committee Passes Resolution Against Gay Marriage

Updated: January 7, 2009
A panel of the Pulaski County Quorum Court has approved a resolution reaffirming the state`s stance against gay marriage. The court`s administration committee voted six-to-one in favor of the resolution drafted by panel member Jim Porter. The resolution next goes before the full quorum court on March 23rd. Porter says he wrote the resolution after hearing that people were calling the county asking for same-sex marriage licenses. Porter says the issue isn`t marriage but the rule of law. Committee member Jayne Cia cast the only vote against Porter`s resolution. Cia said marriage provides important rights that should be extended to gay and lesbian couples. Same-sex marriage is banned under Arkansas law.
