Gun Control Measures Taken In Congress

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Both U-S senators from Arkansas were among a small minority supporting an amended bill to immunize the gun industry from lawsuits. The Senate rejected the bill 90-to-eight today after gun-control measures were tacked onto the bill as amendments. Those amendments would extend the assault weapons ban and require background checks on buyers at gun shows. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, both Democrats, supported both of the amendments. Many Republicans rejected the final version of the bill because of the changes, which narrowly passed. Pryor and Lincoln joined fellow Democrats Tom Daschle of South Dakota, John Breaux of Louisiana and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut in supporting the amended bill. Republicans George Voinovich of Ohio, John McCain of Arizona and Richard Lugar of Indiana also supported the amended bill. Posted by Mike Hellgren
