Police Chief Avoids Trial

Updated: January 7, 2009
A former University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff police chief pleaded guilty today to two misdemeanor counts in a deal that keeps him out of court tomorrow. Former chief Donnie Savage was set for a trial tomorrow in Jefferson County Circuit Court on two felony counts of tampering with public records and 22 felony counts of violating the information and reporting standards of the Arkansas Crime Information Center. Instead, he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts today netting an 800 dollar fine and 30-days probation. The charges relate to allegations that Savage illegally used the A-C-I-C database, distributing criminal histories and personal information to people who were not involved in law enforcement. Savage resigned from U-A-P-B in July 2002, after five years as campus police chief. Posted by Mike Hellgren
