Updated: January 7, 2009
The state is suing five nursing homes, alleging neglect, abuse and Medicaid fraud. The lawsuits, filed in Pulaski County Circuit Court, involve 15 patients and seek damages of 250 thousand dollars and civil penalties of more than 45 million dollars. The nursing homes include The Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Hot Springs, Eureka Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Conway Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Sheridan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Arbor Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Malvern. The suits allege the nursing homes fraudulently filed for and collected Medicaid reimbursement for the patients` services but the services were inadequate or not provided. Also, the suits alleges the nursing homes` parent company, Tennessee-based Advocat, violated the Arkansas Abuse of Adults Act.
