15,000 Arkansans Will Get Money From Music Industry

About 15,000 Arkansas residents could receive refund checks as a result of an antitrust settlement involving the distribution and sale of music on compact discs. The refunds are for $13.86 and more than three million checks will be sent nationally. About 200,000 of the $47 million being returned to consumers will be distributed in Arkansas, according to state Attorney General Mike Beebe`s office. The 43 states and territories that pursued the case reached the settlement in 2002, but checks are only now starting to reach the mail. The action was against five music distributors and three music retailers. The firms allegedly conspired to inflate prices of music on compact discs and other recorded music.
