The U.S. Labor Department is out with its second dismal monthly jobs report in a row.

The latest figures show U.S. employment was virtually flat from May to June.

Just 18-thousand new jobs were added to the economy last month and there was very little growth in most major private-sector industries.

That's even worse than the previous month, when employers added a mere 25-thousand workers to their payrolls.

The report deals a big blow to many economists, who were expecting at least 90-thousand new jobs after payroll processor ADP said yesterday that the private sector added 157-thousand jobs in June.

About 14-point-one-million Americans were out of work last month.

The unemployment rate also climbed from nine-point-one-percent in May to nine-point-two percent in June.
