A Jacksonville legislator wants to expand
the use of electronic highway message boards in Arkansas to notify
people of child abductions.
The so-called Amber Alert bulletins have been a national success
in catching kidnappers. Arkansas has 26 electronic message boards
on two central Arkansas interstate highways, but they have only
been used for traffic and safety notices.
Representative Sandra Prater -- a Democrat from Jacksonville --
said Amber Alert networks have saved lives in other states and
should be fully functional in Arkansas.
Instead of Amber Alert, the Arkansas notification system is
known as the Morgan Nick Alert. Morgan Nick was a six-year-old girl
abducted in Alma who was never found.
