A woman filed a $3 million claim against the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department after her daughter was killed at state rest stop.
Kristen Laurite was driving cross-country in August 2000 when she stopped at the I-40 rest stop in Morrilton. Days later, her body was found.
The family says the highway department has a long history of criminal activity and opted not to close the facility, even after discussing the matter internally for years.
Laurite is the second person to die at the I-40 rest stop. A trucker was killed there in 1997.
