Updated: January 7, 2009
Violent crime has fallen nearly 28 percent in Pine Bluff because of the "Weed and Seed" program. Weed and Seed, a community policing measure that stresses neigbhorhood involvement, has been a presence in the city since 2001. "The key is residents working with law enforcement and getting involved," said Reverend Jesse Turner, director of Pine Bluff Weed and Seed. Weed and Seed released numbers Tuesday which show sharp declines in the city`s crime rate. Auto thefts have fallen about 37% last year. Residential and commercial burglary also dropped 22%. Other cities are now using the "Weed and Seed" program to lower crime rates.
