Rock band Evanescence won two Grammy awards last night, just one of a handful of Arkansas artists to be honored at the Los Angeles music ceremonies. Evanescence was nominated for five awards and brought home the coveted best new artist prize along with best hard rock performance for the song "Bring Me to Life". Lead singer Amy Lee and former band member Ben Moody started Evanescence out of Little Rock after meeting at an Arkansas summer camp when they were in school. The duo started writing songs together soon afterward and played locally before they became popular worldwide. Also while on stage, Lee thanked her boyfriend and family for being supportive during her absences while touring to support the band`s album. Another Arkansas native scoring a Grammy last night was former President Bill Clinton, who along with Mikhail Gorbachev and Sophia Loren won the award for Spoken Word Album for Children for "Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf/Beintus: Wolf Tracks." Senator Hillary Clinton of New York was nominated for Best Spoken Word Album for her narration of her memoir, "Living History." That award went to liberal commentator Al Franken for "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right". Also winning was Johnny Cash for best short form music video for "Hurt" and his wife, June Carter Cash, who won best female country vocal performance for "Keep on the Sunny Side" and traditional folk album for "Wildwood Flower". Johnny Cash was born at Kingsland, was raised at Dyess in Mississippi County. Both died last year. Their son accepted the awards.
