Death of Kidnapped Girl Hits Home For Arkansas Kids

Updated: January 7, 2009
Some Arkansas students are shaken up after a kidnapped girl was found dead early Friday morning. "She was just walking home, minding her own business and a guy takes her and a few days later, she`s dead," said John Block, a student at Pike View Elementary in North Little Rock. "I really feel sorry for her," he said. Carla Brucia, 11, was abducted Sunday while walking home from a friend`s house. Block is the same age as Brucia. Block`s mother Elaine, who teaches at Pike View, says she taught her son not to speak to strangers or get into their cars. But it`s better to make a scene, according to one expert. "Whether it`s hollering, crying, screaming, yelling the word `fire,` make as much attention as possible," says Ofc. Terrell Vaughn, with the Little Rock Police Department. Vaughn says more people are drawn to someone screaming "fire" than "help." He also recommends keeping an updated picture of your children in case they are abducted.
