Backers of a 3.2 million
dollar plan to fund a "virtual" charter school have failed in an
attempt to fund the project.
Proponent failed in an attempt to tack the needed money onto a
bill that funds all public schools for the next two years.
Earlier in the 60-day special session on court-ordered education
reforms, the Joint Budget Committee voted against funding for the
project.
Those opposed to the project said it unfairly diverts public
school funding for home schooling because many of those enrolled in
the virtual school are former home schoolers.
The school installs computers in students` homes and teaches
students over the Internet.
