Jobs Leave East Arkansas

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
About 140 people stand to lose their jobs if the RBX Industries Incorporated plastics plant near Forrest City closes as scheduled in April. Officials are trying to find a buyer for the plant at Colt. The company is also planning to close plants in Virginia and Georgia. The company cited financial losses, an overcapacity in the rubber industry and general weakness in the manufacturing economy as reasons for the closure. Some employees have worked at the plant for decades and say family members work there, too. St. Francis County Judge Carl Cisco says the plant could attract a buyer because of its relative newness and because it has good technology in place. Several years ago, 300 people worked at the RBX plant but about half that many work there today.
