Garden Ridge Files Bankruptcy

The Garden Ridge home decor and crafts retail chain is seeking bankruptcy court protection. Houston-based Garden Ridge also has announced it`s closing four stores. Garden Ridge spokesman Joel Weiden says the chain also wants to renegotiate store lease agreements through its Chapter Eleven filing. Garden Ridge has 44 stores in 13 Midwestern and Southeastern states. It says it plans to close two in Houston, one in Humble (UHM`-buhl) and another in Cincinnati within the next 45 days. It`s also is considering closing more locations across the country and opening new stores in more promising sites. Garden Ridge, which has one Arkansas store in Little Rock, faces tough competition from Wal-Mart and Home Depot.
