ACLU Criticizes Bush`s Call To Renew Patriot Act

The American Civil Liberties Union is blasting President Bush for asking Congress to renew portions of the Patriot Act set to expire next year. Bush told Congress during his State of the Union address that the Patriot Act is needed to fight terrorism. ACLU contents the law infringes on personal freedom and gives the government too much power. "They don`t have to show probable cause or any evidence that an act of terrorism has been committed," says Rita Sklar, executive director of ACLU Arkansas. The measure allows the government to use roving wiretaps and nullification warrants to investigate anyone suspected of terrorism. Congress passed the Patriot Act after the September 11 attacks.
