breaking news
Three former Saline County jailers have pleaded
innocent to charges that they stole about 14 dollars from inmates,
then bought beer with the money and drank it with a county
prisoner.
The three -- 32-year-old Todd McEuen, 22-year-old John Hood, and
21-year-old Christopher Carmen -- entered the innocent pleas to a
felony charge of furnishing prohibited articles in the Saline
County jail and a misdemeanor theft of property charge.
Their trial date was set for July Seventh.
The three were arrested after they allegedly took the cash
October Seventh from a property room for inmates` belongings and
used it to buy beer at a Shell station on the Saline-Pulaski county
line, then drank the beer with inmate Jason Basham. Basham was in
jail on charges of rape, domestic battery, terroristic threatening
and escaping from the jail.
If convicted, the former jailers would face a sentence of three
to ten years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine on the
contraband charge. Sentencing on the theft charge would be up to a
year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.
