Wal-Mart Lawsuit Settled

Wal-Mart has settled a lawsuit brought in Texas
by relatives of employees whose lives were insured without their
knowledge.
Financial details weren`t disclosed.
Six families were plaintiffs, but their lawyer says the
settlement could benefit families of other Wal-Mart employees.
Wal-Mart hoped to reap the proceeds of the policies when the
workers died. Family members were enraged that the company profited
-- but they received nothing from the policies.
The suit was filed two years ago in federal court in Houston.
U-S District Judge Nancy Atlas sided with the families.
Wal-Mart appealed.
A settlement was announced hours before the Fifth U-S Circuit
Court of Appeals issued its ruling Monday -- favoring the
relatives.
Such policies are legal in Texas if the worker`s death would
cause financial harm to the company.
The judge ruled Wal-Mart`s policies failed that test.
