Another Animal Dies At Zoo

Updated: January 7, 2009
There`s been another death at the Little Rock Zoo. The zoo says it has euthanized a sick Brazilian jaguar, the 10th animal to die in the past few weeks among the zoo`s collection of more than 700. Angie, a 19-year-old cat, was put down two days ago. The zoo`s veterinarian says tests show Angie had developed a fast-spreading type of cancer. Within the past few weeks, the zoo has announced the deaths of four gazelles and five bush dogs. The bush dogs were killed by an undiagnosed virus. One gazelle died of an illness contracted before it was acquired by the zoo; one was killed by the other gazelles, and two slammed into a fence or wall after being spooked. General curator Carroll Hargrove says he does NOT believe any deficiencies in displays or care are to blame. Posted by Mike Hellgren
