Paroled Arkansas Rapist Sentenced In Missouri

Updated: January 7, 2009
Paroled Arkansas rapist Wayne DuMond was sentenced to life in prison today on his first-degree murder conviction in Missouri. Dumond was convicted in November in the 2000 death of Carol Sue Shields near Kansas City. The 39-year-old mother of three was found dead at the apartment of a man with whom she was having an affair. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty for DuMond, leaving life in prison without parole as the only sentencing option. DuMond had moved to Missouri six weeks before the killing. He had married a Missouri woman who visited him with her church group while he was in prison in Arkansas. DuMond was paroled in Arkansas after serving 13 years of a sentence for the 1984 rape of a Forrest City teenager. DuMond was awaiting trial in that case when someone castrated him in 1985 in his Arkansas home.
