Town Accused Of Being Speed Trap Can`t Write More Tickets

A Desha County judge says Reed`s police force cannot write speeding tickets, at least for now. Police Chief Charles Atkins had asked for permission to resume writing tickets on U-S 65 after the county prosecutor told him to quit, saying Atkins was violating a speed trap law. Circuit Judge Jerry Mazzanti ruled that Atkins` petition does NOT make the case that the ban on writing tickets causes harm. Prosecutor Thomas Deen told Atkins to quit writing tickets last month, arguing that Reed collects more money than allowed from traffic citations. Posted by Mike Hellgren
