Lower-than-projected personal income tax
collections and slightly higher-than-expect sales tax collections
put overall state revenues about on target for December.
The state fiscal office reports collections of 329-point-seven
(m) million dollars last month -- 17-point-two (m) million dollars
more than in December 2002. But, the total is five-point-eight (m)
million dollars -- or one-point-seven percent -- below the forecast
for the month.
Fiscal officers blamed the variance on shifts in the timing of
payments for tax planning, which it said often occurs between
December and January.
