Wastewater Plan In White County Kept Secret Due To Terror Fears

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A White County public utility board plans to overhaul its water and wastewater treatment plant. A study determined how vulnerable the facility is to terrorist attacks, but board officials say the result and other details will NOT be made public for security reasons. The Searcy Board of Public Utilities recently heard a presentation by company administrators and department heads in a 45-minuted closed session. Federal law passed after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks requires assessments of all public water and sewer treatment facilities. Dan Dawson, the board`s assistant general manager, says the project should NOT require borrowing funds. He says the overhaul should begin early next year and take three to nine months to complete.
