Blood Shortage Critical at American Red Cross

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Cuddly teddy bears may be keeping kids warm at the Arkansas Children`s Hospital, but the American Red Cross needs to donate more of them. The Red Cross donated 500 of the little bears to the hospital, one for each blood donation they received during December. But because the blood supply is so low, they`re asking more people to give blood around this time. "Unlike a present that might get broken, or a present that might get thrown away, this is a gift that actually benefits somebody, it can actually save their life," said David Chumley of the American Red Cross. The Red Cross says it usually faces a blood shortage during the holidays, but the severe flu outbreak has made it worse. If you`re healthy, the Red Cross asks you to go to the nearest donation location and give blood.
