An Ohio man is due in court today to plead guilty to a federal charge that he stole data from an Arkansas-based database company. Under a deal with federal prosecutors, Daniel Baas (bass) of suburban Cincinnati has agreed to plead guilty to gaining illegal access to the computer database of Little Rock-based Acxiom (AXEY`-um) Corporation. He could face a federal prison term and fine on the basis of his scheduled plea this afternoon in Cincinnati federal court. Government prosecutors say the 25-year-old Baas stole the data between January 2001 and January 2003 through his job at a Cincinnati company hired to analyze data for Acxiom. Prosecutors say the scheme has cost Acxiom at least five-point-eight (m) million dollars. The company serves major banks, retailers and credit-card issuers. Prosecutors say they have no evidence that Baas used the illegally obtained data for criminal purposes.
