Little Rock City Board Wraps Up For The Year

Updated: January 7, 2009
Little Rock`s Board of Directors ended the year on a high note by passing several measures including a new budget. The board approved a $108 million dollar operating budget, flat from a year ago. The average budget is about $120 million. 26 job vacancies will remain unfilled. Mayor Jim Dailey says declining sales tax revenues --due to the increase in internet shopping- lead to the steep budget cuts. "We have pretty well expected to have somewhere around 3-4% increase, but the trends that we`ve seen have been declining," said Dailey. The board also approved bonds to repair the sewage overflow near the UALR campus and to increase water pressure near Cantrell and Taylor Loop.
