Pilot Dead After Plane Crash

Updated: January 7, 2009
A single-engine airplane pilot apparently is dead after his plane crashed last night in a remote, mountainous area of western Arkansas. The Beechcraft H-35 wasn`t spotted until this morning and search teams spent all afternoon trying to climb to the crash site on Black Fork Mountain, near the Rich Mountain community. A Polk County official says the crash site was still burning late this afternoon. The search team was still trying to lead transport mules and equipment along rugged terrain to reach the area. The V-tail aircraft was enroute from Tulsa to Mena when air-traffic control lost contact with it about 11 miles northwest of the airport. The pilot was scheduled to pick up a passenger in Mena and continue on to Trinity, Texas. Posted By Mike Hellgren
