State Home Investigation

Saline County`s prosecutor says he will file charges against two former employees of the state`s largest mental-health and nursing home. Six residents died at the Arkansas Health Center in Benton. Prosecutor Robert Herzfeld says there is enough evidence for charges in two deaths. He said both suspects will be charged with abuse of an adult, a felony, and with negligent homicide, a misdemeanor. He declined to disclose the names of the victims, but said they were women. Herzfeld said Attorney General Mike Beebe`s office recommended criminal charges against individual employees, but not against the troubled nursing home. According to documents related to the A-G`s investigation, one patient, 67-year-old Juanita Lacy, died after a nurse gave her another patient`s medication, and 91-year-old Martha Willis died when the center`s pharmacist dispensed the wrong medication.
