Huckabee Looking For New State Supreme Counrt Justice

Governor Huckabee said today that he will
work quickly to replace Arkansas Supreme Court Justice W-H Dub
Arnold. Arnold announced today that he is stepping down to teach
and work as a lawyer.
The new judge would serve through next year, when a new chief
justice would be chosen during the November 2004 general election.
That judge would serve out the remaining four years of Arnold`s
term.
Huckabee said that in light of the urgent and complicated issues
facing the Supreme Court, he hopes to move quickly to find a
replacement.
Chief among those issues is a January first deadline to fix the
state`s ailing education system. The Arkansas Supreme Court set
that deadline a year ago.
Arnold, who is 68,has served as chief justice for seven years.
The governor said that he served with integrity and honor and that
Arkansans will miss his evenhanded and thoughtful leadership.
