The chief judge of Arkansas` highest court
says he`s stepping down from the appellate bench. State supreme
Court Justice W.H. "Dub" Arnold says he won`t be stepping far
away from the court room when his resignation becomes effective
January First.
Arnold announced his resignation today after serving seven years
as state supreme court justice. He says he still loves the court
room and looks forward to returning as a lawyer or an appointed
judge.
Governor Mike Huckabee said today that Arnold served with
integrity and honor and that Arkansans will miss his evenhanded and
thoughtful leadership. The governor promised to quickly find a
replacement.
The sixty eight year old judge was circuit-chancery judge for
the Ninth District prior to winning election. Before that, was
Clark County municipal judge. He has also taught, served as a
prosecutor and served as chairman of the state Worker`s
Compensation Commission from 1973 through 1977.
